FAQs

  • My art process begins with a sketch onto cotton based paper, either hot or cold pressed depending on the effect I want.

Then I start painting, I am a mixed media painter and use a combination of watercolours and gouache for the base of every artwork. Finishing touches are applied with pencil, paint pen, gel pen and sometimes marker.

Once the painting is complete I scan it either at home (small works) or at Officeworks at at least 300dpi, higher if available.

The scanned image is over exposed and has a habit of draining the saturation, I’ve found most of my scans have a slightly green tinge to them if I get them done at Officeworks.

So I put that scan into Photopia, a creative editing software where I adjust the exposure, saturation, and vibrance to reflect the original piece as much as possible.

I make adjustments to the format so that it is print ready, and then I print the art either in my own fine art printer or through a local printing company.

Currently, my printer is out of order and needs a service, so the products available for purchase are made by my local printing company for now.

  • Planning and sketching the image takes about 2-4 hours depending on the size and complexity of the piece.

Painting is more difficult to estimate and can take anywhere from 6 hours to a year.

Sometimes I get too caught up in a piece I’m working on and have to put it out of site so I can come back to it refreshed and able to see any flaws.

Sometimes I have to rethink the direction of a piece because once on paper it had a different feel to how I expected it too.

A lot of time and thinking goes into finishing my work, so estimating how long it takes is difficult.

  • I will be posting all order made during the week on Mondays and Fridays.

From that point on orders arrival time depend solely on Australia Post and the couriers.

  • At She is Paint sustainability and environmental impact is very important and prioritized wherever possible.

With that in mind, all my envelopes and packaging tapes are provided through Heaps Good packaging, who have plenty of information available about their environmentally sustainable products.

I tried to find eco friendly poly bags but unfortunately the best I could do was recyclable. I use these bags because I know they will keep the art safe from weather and spillage.

I only use one bag per order, so if you order several prints, they will all come in one poly bag with one piece of backing cardboard.

In terms of my art practice, gouache and watercolours are water soluble, so I rarely waste any paint. If it dries up I simply reactivate it with water, so I rarely buy paint. There is very little waste in my practice.

I strive to make eco friendly choices in all my creative pursuits, and if you have something you feel I should know or if you want to know anything specific, feel free to reach out!
