White swans gather around each other, dancing and singing, as a single black swan swims gently away from the flock. One white swan gazes behind them slightly, noticing the black swans path, another white swan considers following, moving its body away from the others. The white swans live in the night pond, and never see the sun. The black swan yearns for belonging, maybe they were isolated by the others, their body crosses the line into the infinite light pond, finally their feathers feels the warmth of something more.
This piece is about otherness, that cold feeling that home is not home, and the hesitance of stepping into something new, without a flock to guide you. The black swan is the person who cannot bare to feel alone surrounded by others. The white swan may feel loyal to the flock, but something pushes them to consider whether or not home really is home, if the black swan is compelled to leave.
