The Path

from $15.00

This piece is about the impossible choices of chronic physical and mental illness.

The path, walled off and filled with hazardous obstacles, fires, barbed wire, tar and pain. The figure is battered and impaled by a rusty rod, their head a balloon, which was gently tied to their neck with ribbon, has come free and is lifting into the air, crying as they leave behind their body.

Angry and terrifying beasts stalk towards the helpless figure, who can only watch and reach out for their head, their soul, to return, to not leave them to face the pain alone.

This imagery represents my battle with endometriosis and complex trauma, and how helpless I have felt at times.

Original made with watercolours, gouache, pencil, and gel pen.

Printed on acid free art paper.
